Food and Nutrition is a frequent topic of discussion among today’s generation of people. In today’s time, people understand how important it is to consume good food. It is often said, you are what you eat. As much as people are getting more continuous about things regarding food and health, sometimes times the modern approach can be unhealthy. Let’s see the difference in food habits in accordance to changing generations, for example, earlier people used to eat fresh foods, vegetables the fruits and almost everything was directly from the farm, people were actively involved in farming and gardening, the meat, fish, eggs and other sources were all fresh and not packed. The milk was fresh too unlike today’s processed cane milk. 

Another different thing is people don’t eat a freshly cooked meal anyway, in earlier times meals were cooked three times a day, it was served hot and fresh, indifference to today’s microwave heaters food (ไมโครเวฟ อุ่น อาหาร, which is the term in Thai) Moreover, the popularization of last food era, creation of McDonald’s, pizza but and KFC’s in every corner and joint of the city, not saying this is bad but overconsumption, is leading to some problems, it’s even easier to slip nowadays even more with all the online ordering application, any food can be your doormat with just one touch in your smartphone, it has made our lives easy but also made us somehow lazy of our already existing busy life. 

Food culture can be confusing in this generation, with all the experts giving different opinions of their own and it can form a sense of confusion of what to eat and what not to eat. Different kinds of diets like keto, paleo, and others are very idealized and followed by many young adults. But often young adults forget that being healthy is a state of holistic well-being and not just shedding some extra kilos, it consists of a balanced diet.

Let’s talk about some of the true and false statement regarding foods followed by today’s health culture-

  • Brown Rice Has Fewer Calories: Brown rice has the same amount of carbohydrates as white rice, it just has more fiber to it.
  • Freshly Cooked Meals Are Better: Freshly cooked meals are indeed slightly better than microwave heated food or finds stored in the refrigerator, for hours
  • Ghee And Oil Are Bad: This is not true, we all need healthy fats, the problem is the consumption of unhealthy fats and unhealthy amounts.
